In order to prevent damage and keep floors looking beautiful it is neccessary to have routine cleaning of marble floors. The three fundamentals are: Prevention, cleaning (without Damage) and removal of stains.

Axminster Retoration Services provide a professional cleaning, polishing and maintenance service for all hard and wooden floors.

Some general advice is given below.

Prevention
You should prevent damaging your floors from such things as grit trailed in by foot. A simple mat placed outside the door will reduce grit and soil deposits. Cleaning or shaking of the mats should also be done frequently. Also - vacuum the floor regularly to minimise grit and dust deposits.

Install protective castors under wood and metal furniture feet. Metal legs can oxidise causing staining and scratching whereas wood can seep tannins.

Plant pots need to be considered. Plastic trays can stain floors and staining can also occur from soil deposits. Avoid using rubber pads beneath rugs as these contain sulphurs. Any spills should be mopped up quickly to prevent staining.

Cleaning
Best results are obtained by using the correct materials. pH neutral cleaners such as stone soap formulated are specially formulated for cleaning natural stone.

Tools with soft fibers should be used. Avoid using tools with metal parts as these can easily scratch marble.

Avoid green scrubbing pads and scouring creams.
